Mr. Ballard and Ms. Esule stand in front of STEAM posters

On Friday, February 23, 2024 the students at TRA enjoyed a full fun day of STEAM activities hosted by Ms. Esule, our Community In Schools representative.  Ms. Esule's activities focused on Engineering (E) and Arts (A) within STEAM. The school was divided into two  sections so that multiple activities could go on simultaneously. The Engineering section provided students the opportunity to build bridges out of straws. The purpose of this activity was to engage students through design-based projects while giving them a better understanding of fundamental concepts. This improved student learning through hands-on, and project-based experience that connects them to everyday STEAM applications. The Art section provided  students the opportunity to be creative. The purpose of this  activity was to prompt increased motor skills, higher decision-making skills, better visual learning, enhanced learning experiences and communication skills. Once students selected their wooden object and designed it, students would have to explain their design choices to staff and students.   Both activities provided much joy to the students at Tar River Academy.
